Impacting & connecting boys through peer-to-peer workshops.
About Our Workshops
Man Up’s three workshops, each running for approximately one hour, are designed to explore the intersections between masculinity, the communities in which we live, the people we interact with, and our attitudes towards ourselves.
Students break into groups of 8-12 of their friends and find a Man Up facilitator, who creates a non-judgemental space where the students can feel comfortable and engaged in learning about their attitudes towards their society, peers, and self.
Our three workshops are described below.
Our Workshops.
-
Male Culture.
Addresses the concept of masculinity on a societal scale. Students are encouraged to reflect on the question: “what does it mean to be a man”. This session works to build an understanding of masculinity itself, how it has evolved over time, and the ways in which masculinity and the world influence each other. In our Male Culture workshop, we address the following topics:
Masculine stereotypes
Call-out culture
Alcohol and other drugs
Bystander behaviour
Pornography myths
-
Male Relationships.
Directs the students to learn about how masculinity associates with the formation, development, and health of their interpersonal relationships. This session works to analyse how the different masculine attitudes and behaviours can affect other people, and challenges students to view interactions with others from a lens other than their own. In our Male Relationships workshop, we address the following topics:
Types of relationships
Boundary setting
Healthy communication
Sexual consent
Recognising abusive relationships
-
Male Coping.
asks the students to reflect on their own personal experiences, and how these have shaped them into the person that they are at present. This session places a focus on mental health, vulnerability, skill-building, aiming to give students the necessary tools to overcome various challenges that are commonly encountered by young men today. In our Male Coping workshop, we address the following topics:
Mental health stigmas
Masculine mental health
Anxiety vs depression
Healthy coping methods
Mental health reflection
Supporting our mates
